Dr. Kathy J. Zwald is
coordinator of the Southwest Orientation and Mobility Program. She is an ACVREP
certified orientation and mobility specialist with more than 30 years of
experience as an O&M specialist for children and adults in multiple
settings. She has worked in rehabilitation centers, residential and public
schools, most recently as a supervising teacher at the Arizona State Schools
for the Deaf and Blind in Tucson.
Dr. Zwald holds a Ph.D.
degree from the University of Arizona and master’s degrees in health and
physical education and therapeutic recreation from the University of Georgia
and the University of North Texas.
She has served as a coach
at sports camps for youth who are blind or visually impaired in Tucson and
Atlanta, Georgia, and as an adjunct professor in satellite programs
conducted through Pennsylvania College of Optometry and Florida State
University. Her research interests include perceptions, demographics, and
personal physical activity practices related to students with visual
impairments.
