Dr. L. Penny Rosenblum is an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and School Psychology where she works to prepare teachers of children with visual impairments. Dr. Rosenblum received her doctorate from the University of Arizona in 1997. She was an assistant professor at Florida State University from 1997 to 1999 when she left to join the faculty at the U of A. She teaches several master's courses a year including the Introduction to Visual Impairment and Deafblindness, Braille I, Braille II, and Methods of Teaching Students with Visual Impairment. Research interests of Dr. Rosenblum include the social aspects of visual impairment, personnel preparation and nondriving issues. With the American Printing House for the Blind, Dr. Rosenblum produced the video Reclaiming Independence: Staying in the Driver's Seat When You No Longer Drive, a 40 minute video that shares the experiences of six older adults who had to stop driving due to vision loss. Along with Dr. Anne Corn retired from Vanderbilt University, Dr. Rosenblum has published the curriculum Finding Wheels: A curriculum for non-drivers with visual impairments for gaining control of transportation needs. Dr. Rosenblum is a consultant for the American Foundation for the Blind and has contributed to the FamilyConnect web site. Dr. Rosenblum is past president of the Arizona Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AZ AER). Dr. Rosenblum received the 2008 Distinguished Service Award from the Division on Visual Impairment from the Council for Exceptional Children. In 2005 she was chosen as the Margaret Bluhm Worker of the Year from this organization. Each year she presents at conferences both locally and nationally.
