Orientation and Mobility

Applying for the Master's Degree
in DPS
Full-time, On-campus Program

What do I need to apply?

  •  A Bachelor's degree in education or in a related field such as rehabilitation counseling, teaching, or psychology is preferred. However, many graduates with backgrounds unrelated to education have become successful Orientation and Mobility specialists. The program has included persons seeking second, more rewarding careers, and many non-traditional students have done quite well.
  • A cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0. However, properly suited and motivated candidates with slightly lower grade point averages may be admitted.
  • Successful completion of all prerequisite courses (SERP 503, SERP 520, SERP 521, SERP 522) or their equivalents.

What is the application process?

1. Submit a formal application for graduate study to the Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies. See the checklist of departmental application requirements. Applications for the Fall semester must be received by the departmental Graduate Coordinator by February 15. To review departmental application requirements, go to the DPS Application web page.

2. Complete an interview with the Coordinator, Programs in Orientation and Mobility, who will contact you after your graduate application has been reviewed.

You will be notified by mail as to your acceptance into the program.
