Educational Interpreting Courses

SERP 453 Models of Interpretation & Transliteration (Fall only)
This course will focus on interpretation & transliteration processes from English to ASL or English-based sign systems.
Prerequisite: ASL4

SERP 456 Interpretation/Transliteration: Math & Science (Spring only)
This course will focus on interpretation and transliteration as applied to math and science texts.
Prerequisite: SERP 453 and SERP 458

SERP 457 Interpretation/Transliteration: Language Arts/English and Social Sciences (Spring only)
Further develop skills in interpretation/transliteration between English and ASL as applied to language arts and social sciences texts.
Prerequisite: SERP 453 and SERP 458

SERP 458 An Introduction to Discourse Analysis for Interpreters (Fall only)
This course will involve an in-depth study of English & ASL interlingual skills for interpreters.

SERP 475 Practicum I
Students are placed in an actual K-12 classroom to observe a professional educational interpreter.

SERP 475 Practicum II
Students are placed in actual K-12 classroom with a partner for “mock interpreting”

SERP 494 Practicum III
Students team interpret with a professional educational interpreter.

SERP 494 Practicum IV (Optional)
Students team interpret with a professional educational interpreter.

*SERP 433a-d are offered once every two years and do not need to be taken in sequence.
